Bucharest
Bucharest is the capital city of Romania. Known as "little Paris" or "Paris of the Balkans", Bucharest is a city which reflects its tumultuous past.
Situated in the southern part of Romania, in the heart of the great Plain of Muntenia, the city was built on the river Dâmbovita, a sub-tributary of the Danube. With over 2 million inhabitants, Bucharest is the administrative, economic and cultural centre of the Country.
Bucharest is a very green city, with a great number of parks and gardens. The river Colentina forms many lakes (such as lakes Mogosoaia, Baneasa, Herastrau, Floreasca, Tei, Straulesti, Fundeni, Cernica, Pantelimon). Despite this, Bucarest - a city of the plains - is blessed with a dry climate in summer.
