Zagreb

Zagreb is the  capital city of Croatia. Situated in the north of the country, it stretches  between Mount Medvednica (1035 m) and the river Sava. The city and the surrounding built-up area currently count 1.1 million inhabitants.
The distinguishing feature of Zagred is that it is neatly divided into three distinct sections.  The High City (Gornji Grad), the oldest part of Zagreb, is the result of the XVII century merger of two cities: Gradec and Kaptol.

The Low City, (Donji Grad), dates back to the XIX century. Most of the monuments are in the romanic style. The Viennese influence shows in the layout of the streets and green areas. The 'third Zagreb' is the New City, built after 1945. It is the most urbanized zone of the Croatian capital city.
